Snowflake

In every little snowflake
lives all the love I have poured;
I have captured all the constellations that formed
when we were together, like two penguins taking the long way home — frozen in time,
so I could watch them over and over
in tiny pieces of crystal, when longing embraces me

Glistening in my memories, I vividly remember
the coffee in my mother’s cup every morning,
sunlight shining on floral dresses
as I shoo the flies away from the picnic sandwiches

The cold didn’t stand a chance on the soft blanket we shared
while I tell you all about my daydreams,
like how I want to create a world where dogs can eat chocolates
and not have to worry a thing,
because the world I painted is kind and gentle,
and all it takes for peace is a cone of vanilla ice cream.

If I could make a wish come true,
I’d ask for another snowflake with us in it.
