uniE621 Book design — Platinum Editions
Designed special editions for YA novels including S.E. Hinton's THE OUTSIDERS. This cover design is still in use. Books were printed with metallic Pantone, had French flaps and deckled edges.
uniE621 Book series design — Mike Lucia sports books
Created series look and designed initial titles for Mike Lupica's New York Times best-selling YA sports titles. Series design is still used more than a decade after I created it. graphicdesigner designer
uniE621 Book series design — Chronicles of Vladimir Tod
Created the branding and design for this bestselling vampire YA series — so successful, this 5-book series spawned a whole spin-off series. For the original design, I felt there was just too much type. . . and persuaded the publisher to put the book title — in huge type — on the BACK. That was a first (and only) for me. For books 3, 4 and 5 I led the art direction to find a model and direct the photoshoot to create our silhouettes. The "vampire smiley" logo I created for book one was later called "Fang" and became the focus of an entire merchandising campaign, that I led the design for. graphicdesigner artdirector logo branding
uniE621 Book Design — Paper Towns (hardcover)
I art directed and designed this double front-cover — a "Happy Margot and "Sad Margot" mirroring the double life of the novel's protagonist — for this John Green YA blockbuster, published by Dutton/Penguin Young Readers. I found the model and directed the photoshoot in New York. A New York Times bestseller later turned into a feature film in 2015. I also designed the current paperback edition. graphicdesigner designer bookcover
