Paula entered the book publishing industry in 1999 and retired in December 2021 as a Senior Editor for W Publishing Group, an imprint of Thomas Nelson, a division of Harper Collins Christian Publishing. During her more than two decades with the company, Paula edited nonfiction books by some of its biggest and most influential Christian authors, including Max Lucado, Billy Graham, David Jeremiah, Kathie Lee Gifford, Andy Andrews, and Ann Voskamp. For four years, Paula was the in-house editor for the Lucado brand, managing projects from Max’s backlist as well as his major trade titles: You'll Get Through This, Grace, Outlive Your Life, Max on Life, and Fearless. At the height of Women of Faith Conferences, Paula served as editor for books authored by Sheila Walsh, Angela Thomas, Patsy Clairmont, Sandi Patty, and Jan Silvious. Developing and cultivating relationships with key authors, and first-time authors, along with their ministry and/or editorial teams and agents was an aspect of her position as Senior Editor that Paula most enjoyed. It was also Paula’s privilege and honor to work with African American writers of creative nonfiction, primarily autobiographies and memoirs, as well as personal essays. Those of note include Sarah Jakes Roberts, Woman Evolve: Break Up with Your Fears and Revolutionize Your Life; Barry Black, From the Hood to the Hill: A Story of Overcoming; Patrice Gopo, All the Colors We Will See: Reflections on Barriers, Brokenness, and Finding Our Way; Herb Frazier, Bernard Powers Jr, and Marjory Wentworth, We Are Charleston: Tragedy and Triumph at Mother Emanuel; Anthony Griffith and Brigitte Travis-Griffin, Behind the Laughter: A Comedian’s Tale of Tragedy and Hope; Remi Adeleke, Transformed: A Navy SEAL’s Unlikely Journey from the Throne of Africa, to the Streets of the Bronx, to Defying All Odds; and Patricia Raybon and Alana Raybon, Undivided: A Muslim Daughter, Her Christian Mother, Their Path to Peace. A native of Houston, Texas, Paula moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in the late seventies. Having graduated Magna cum Laude from Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia, Paula returned home for a couple of years and began her career in mass media as a broadcast journalist. Her acclaimed journalistic expertise spanned three decades in Houston and Nashville. While a radio news anchor, Paula was honored by Tennessee Associated Press Broadcasters for best breaking-news coverage in reports on the end of the Ray Blanton administration and the swearing in of Lamar Alexander as Tennessee’s 45th governor. She later became the morning drive-time anchor for the city’s only news-talk radio station (WLAC-AM), where eventually she ended her broadcast journalism career.
