Podcast producer and presenter for over ten years.
My name is Dave Thomas and I am a retired police Officer. I spent nearly 30 years policing the streets of Lancashire, UK. After a decade on roads policing, I went into the detective arena where I specialised in investigating serious and complex crime. Finally, I spent the final few years of my career on the child protection unit. It was as challenging role as you might imagine. The interviewing skills I learnt as a police officer continue to serve me well to this day as do my problem solving and role management.
In 2016 I did my very first podcast, concentrating on mental fitness and wellbeing, talking to people who have a story to tell. I always approach their testimony through my own lived experience. I continue to podcast to this day with over 100 episodes and 58k listeners.
I have done commercial work for the Darfield Museum in Barnsley, UK and produced a series of podcasts looking at policing issues for Police Insight/Police TV. I am currently producing a mini series on police wellbeing and the rising rates of police suicide.
I retired from the police in 2022 and two years later went back into law enforcement as a development specialist for the UK Home Office, examining police forces and writing reports on response to a particualt crime area. I am leaving that role in March 2026 in order to pursue audio production.
I am also a volunteer radio presenter for Radio Big Sky, a radio station serving the people of East Anglia.
