The session was recorded in a medium hall with lots of microphone bleeds.

DRUMS

  • SSL 4000 E Channel Strip (UA) on each drum track - utilizing the gate, compressor and 4 band EQ.
  • Since the toms weren’t playing at all times, I manually removed regions that didn’t contain any transients instead of using a gate. These method retains ghost notes and leaves toms sounding natural.
  • Trigger 2 plugin to add extra layer of samples to fatten and enhance the Kick and Snare drums.
  • Abbey Roads TG 12345 send to the drum bus (Parallel compression and saturation)
  • Bricasti convolution reverb ambience) and large wood room
    DRUM BUS
  • Neve EQ and 1176 compressor (25%) on the drum bus.
  • UA Studer A800 Tape Recorder

BASS

  • Bass was recorded DI so I reamped with UA Ampeg SVT-VR.
  • UA LA2A compressor
  • Fabfilter Saturn for saturation
  • Waves RBass for harmonics
  • RComp

KEYS, SYNTHS & PADS

  • Fabfilter pro-Q3 to knock off resonant frequencies on each track.
  • LA2A, Pro C2, Fairchild (depending on what character or colour was needed)
  • Stereo imager to widen the pads.
  • UA Studer A800 Tape Recorder

VOCALS

  • multi compression with subtle gain reductions (Pro C2 on tracks, UA 1176 on bus).
  • Pro Q3 for highpass and dynamic cuts to suppress resonant frequencies.
  • Soothe 2
  • Manley Massive Passive EQ
  • Pultec EQP-1A
  • RVox
  • FabFilter Pro-DS
  • Fairchild

2 MIX BUS

  • SSL Native Bus Compressor 2
  • Virtual Tape Machine
  • Neve EQ
  • UA Fairchild 670
  • PSP Vintage Warmer 2 Limiter

MASTERING**
-Hard to explain (honestly), but basically just getting the songs to a competitively commercial position - smooth, eloquent, classy and proud - making them stand out on any playlist. I mixed the songs so they didn’t require any correctional moves.

  • Izotope Ozone compressor & Imager
  • Slate Digital FG-X
  • Oxford Inflator
  • Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor
  • Abbey Road TG Mastering
  • UA API 2500 compressor
