DESS SALTO Photographer Málaga, 1982 I began my professional career as a photographer in 2016, following a decision that profoundly reshaped both my life and my work: leaving a thirteen-year corporate career to fully commit to photography as a language, a form of knowledge, and a way of being in the world. In the years prior, photography had already been a space of personal exploration, but it was at that moment that I chose to pursue an intensive period of training in Madrid at institutions such as Workshop Experience and EFTI, as well as through workshops with international photographers, including Alex Webb (Magnum Photos). This process was not oriented solely toward technical mastery, but toward the development of a personal voice and visual language. Travelling across all continents became an essential part of my practice. Through this journey, I came to understand that my true interest lies not only in people or in places, but in the intimate relationship between them: the spaces we inhabit and the way they, in turn, shape us. Since then, my work has operated within this hybrid territory where architecture, atmosphere, and human presence intersect. This line of inquiry runs through both my personal and professional work. In my commercial practice, I develop a form of interior photography conceived as the construction of spatial narratives rather than mere representation. In parallel, my authorial projects incorporate bodies, gestures, and silences that activate these spaces and transform them into lived places. My photography exists at the intersection of the documentary, the autobiographical, and the poetic. Through a restrained gaze and a strong attention to atmosphere, I explore themes such as identity, memory, childhood, intimacy, and the passage of time, often working through long-term projects in which the process is as significant as the final image. Alongside my photographic practice, I direct The Basement Studio Gallery in Málaga, an independent space dedicated to contemporary photography, education, and the meeting of artists—understanding photography not only as an object, but as a shared experience and a form of critical thought.

I began my professional career as a photographer in 2016, following a decision that
profoundly reshaped both my life and my work: leaving a thirteen-year corporate career
to fully commit to photography as a language, a form of knowledge, and a way of being
in the world.
In the years prior, photography had already been a space of personal exploration, but it
was at that moment that I chose to pursue an intensive period of training in Madrid at
institutions such as Workshop Experience and EFTI, as well as through workshops with
international photographers, including Alex Webb (Magnum Photos). This process was
not oriented solely toward technical mastery, but toward the development of a
personal voice and visual language.
Travelling across all continents became an essential part of my practice. Through this
journey, I came to understand that my true interest lies not only in people or in places,
but in the intimate relationship between them: the spaces we inhabit and the way they,
in turn, shape us. Since then, my work has operated within this hybrid territory where
architecture, atmosphere, and human presence intersect.
This line of inquiry runs through both my personal and professional work. In my
commercial practice, I develop a form of interior photography conceived as the
construction of spatial narratives rather than mere representation. In parallel, my
authorial projects incorporate bodies, gestures, and silences that activate these
spaces and transform them into lived places.
My photography exists at the intersection of the documentary, the autobiographical,
and the poetic. Through a restrained gaze and a strong attention to atmosphere, I
explore themes such as identity, memory, childhood, intimacy, and the passage of
time, often working through long-term projects in which the process is as significant as
the final image.
Alongside my photographic practice, I direct The Basement Studio Gallery in Málaga, an
independent space dedicated to contemporary photography, education, and the
meeting of artists—understanding photography not only as an object, but as a shared
