I am Marcus Hoogveld. Educated as a publicity draughtsman and photographer in Ghent, I spent the first part of my career in a publicity agency before following my long-held dream to become a draughtsman at Disney. It was a bumpy ride, but it ultimately brought me to a 34-year career designing sets, flying, sailing, and rolling devices, lay-outing books, and supervising the execution of those designs. I love how things work, the history behind them, and the beautiful interplay between pure functionality and aesthetic design. I enjoy cycling, walking, or riding my Vespa, always driven by curiosity about history or the stories that shape the world we experience. My greatest pleasure is being drawn into a fantasy story and translating it into a believable world, and I believe it’s crucial to keep the team excited so the sparkle shines on screen. It’s important to carry the fire forward, and I strive to inspire colleagues who work with my designs to stay enthusiastic and engaged, ensuring the final on-screen magic reflects the passion that started it all.
