Erfan Abdi (1983 – Tehran) is an artist, designer and videographer based in The Hague, The Netherlands. He graduated from the Masters program at the Artscience Interfaculty, Royal Conservatoire The Hague in 2011. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the University of Tehran (2006) he has a background in visual art and design, and experiments with auditory, visual, and haptic stimulants.
Creating sensory stimulation to invoke active perception is Erfan’s way of investigating the world around him. In his practice, he takes advantage of the possibilities offered by DIY technology, and employs found or repurposed material, seeking alternative ways to connect to the world of production and consumption.
As a videographer, Erfan focuses on video documentations of artistic/cultural practices by his peers, reaching out to his background in art to initiate meaningful conversations with the artists/makers to better understand their views and practices. Using simple and clear imagery that is knit within engaging temporal compositions, Erfan creates stories that weave the artists’ viewpoints to the contexts in which the artworks are developed and presented.
Erfan’s works and results of his collaborations have been presented in several venues and places including MetroArts (Brisbane), Paradiso (Amsterdam), Todaysart (The Hague), Arselectronica (Linz), STRP (Eindhoven), NIME (Daejeon), November Music (Den Bosch), Logos (gent) and Steim (Amsterdam).
