Dear Hiring Team,
I am excited to apply for the Game Design Tester position, combining two things that genuinely drive me: a deep love for games and a critical mindset focused on how game systems actually work.
I am an avid gamer who is especially drawn to challenging experiences, such as Dark Souls and other soulslike games. What attracts me to these titles is not difficulty for its own sake, but how challenge is carefully designed: precise mechanics, clear feedback, meaningful punishment and reward, and a strong sense of progression. These games taught me to pay attention to balance, consistency, and how every small design choice affects the player’s learning curve and emotional response.
Academically, I hold a degree in History and am currently studying Systems Analysis and Development, which gives me a solid foundation in systems thinking, narrative coherence, rules, and player behavior. I naturally analyze games while playing them, questioning why a mechanic feels fair or unfair, why a level design works, or why a boss encounter is memorable or frustrating in the wrong way.
As a tester, I am persistent, detail-oriented, and comfortable with repetitive testing. I document issues clearly, reproduce bugs reliably, and communicate feedback in a constructive way that helps designers and developers improve the experience. I care deeply about game feel, difficulty curves, clarity of objectives, and whether the game respects the player’s time and intelligence.
I believe a great Game Design Tester is someone who loves games enough to be demanding with them. That is exactly the mindset I bring: passion, discipline, and a constant drive to make good games even better.
I would be thrilled to discuss how my enthusiasm for challenging games and my analytical approach can contribute to your team.
Best regards,
Erick Souza
