Prophet – Order of the Lyricist IVI is an original EP I composed as the sonic foundation for my theatrical work of the same name. The project sits at the intersection of score and standalone listening experience, designed to carry narrative weight both on stage and in a filmic context.
The opening movement, highlighted in the first 1:13 of the embedded track, is built around an interview I conducted with a close friend of mine who passed away a year later. In that moment, I asked him what kept him writing, what drove him to continue creating music. His response, raw, searching, and at times inarticulate, carries a kind of honesty you can’t manufacture.
I shaped the composition around that voice. The horns and bass move with a slow, deliberate cadence, creating space for his words to breathe while underscoring the emotional weight of what’s being said. For those who knew him, it lands deeply personal. For those who didn’t, the emotion still translates, you hear the passion, the struggle, the reason behind the art.
That opening establishes the tonal and emotional language for everything that follows. From there, the EP unfolds through layered textures, recurring motifs, and a balance of musicality and cinematic scale, drawing from Black American musical traditions while integrating contemporary sound design.
