I am an artist, illustrator, and working naturalist who creates gallery and public-facing art—mural work, logos, portraits, and nature-inspired publications. I’ve also developed a distinctive line of wood-edged, wood-burned, and hand-finished cards inspired by place and the natural world. In my 20s, I illustrated and co-wrote a book called “Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants In Wild (And Not So Wild Places)” Harper Collins, 1994. At the time, the publisher wanted black and white pencil shaded drawings of the different plants and trees. I drew over 200 illustrations for the book. I illustrated and wrote a children’s book last year called “My Earth Journey”. There are lots of botanicals in landscapes throughout the book. It was published by 12 Willows Press, here in Maine. This project was a combination of acrylic on paper and digital. Much of my art is nature based, about deepening our connection to this planet. Over the last 18 years I have developed a line of original art and cards called Wisdom from the Wood. At first the originals were all from wood burned, painted, sometimes carved art on live edge wood. The last few years I started adding my acrylic art on canvas and paper to this line of cards. These images tend to be either whimsical, or a bit surreal, with a sense of the spiritual. I try to get into the inner workings of each plant I illustrate, to create an image that is memorable and lasting. I sell the originals at galleries, shows and markets. The cards are mainly in health food stores, garden shops and craft stores. Currently, I am working on originals (both wood burned and on canvas and paper), as well as extending my line of cards. I am always looking f or other interesting projects that fit into my wheelhouse. I am also an herbalist, and I spend much time gardening, occasionally leading walks, and making different medicines. I share them with friends and family. I teach and mentor through art and nature programs, leading workshops, nature walks, and educational talks on wild and medicinal plants for food and herbal use.
