Hi, I’m Fatuma Mohamed—a creative storyteller, youth mentor, and visual artist with lifelong roots in North, South, and Northeast Minneapolis. Growing up across these communities shaped my perspective and my art, inspiring me to create work grounded in authentic human experiences.
As a teenager, I published my first chapbook of photography and poetry with the mentorship of writer Andy Sturdevant. Presented at the Northeast Minneapolis Library and now archived at the Minneapolis Central Library, that work affirmed my path as a storyteller—dedicated to preserving memory and connecting people through words and images. Since then, I’ve continued to expand my practice—from publishing chapbooks in my teens, to mentoring youth, to documenting oral traditions with elders in Somalia. Whether through photography, poetry, or mentoring, my work is about community, heritage, and representation. Featured in Humans of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Daily, I’m committed to using creativity as both a mirror and a bridge: reflecting everyday beauty while inspiring imagination, resilience, and cross-generational connection.
