A Lifelong Passion for Music Felix Houtman (2004) is a Dutch film composer and music producer with a deep passion for storytelling through sound. His musical journey began in 2011 when he started playing drums—a skill he developed over seven years while performing in and around Capelle aan den IJssel. However, his curiosity and desire for new creative challenges soon led him down a different path. From Drums to Digital Composition In 2018, Felix discovered the world of music production. What started as creating simple loops on his laptop quickly turned into a serious commitment. Determined to grow, he immersed himself in self-study before being accepted into a music program in Rotterdam in 2020. Over the next three years, he gained extensive theoretical knowledge, hands-on experience, and valuable industry connections. Film Scoring & Industry Recognition Felix has developed a unique style, often characterized by melancholic, cinematic soundscapes. His versatility allows him to work across various genres. He has composed music for several short films and documentaries that have been screened at festivals both in the Netherlands and internationally. Mixing, Mastering & Collaborations While composition remains his primary focus, Felix also has experience in mixing and mastering. He has contributed to multiple projects, including mastering Viatr’s EP Memory Interior. Although not his core specialization, he is open to collaborations where his technical and musical expertise can add value. Boom Operating & Sound Assistance In addition to his studio work, Felix has recently begun working on film sets as a boom operator and sound assistant. His understanding of sound and attention to detail make him a strong asset during live productions. A selection of his on-set work will soon be available via his portfolio. A New Chapter: Conservatory & Future Projects In June 2023, Felix earned his secondary vocational education diploma. In September 2024, he began the next stage of his career by enrolling in the Composition for Film & Games program at ArtEZ Conservatory in Enschede. Despite his studies, he remains actively involved in new projects and is available for work in composition, mixing, mastering, and boom operation.
