Hi, I’m Greg Houston, a Baltimore-born illustrator and writer working in editorial, comics, and graphic novels. Since launching my freelance career in 1988, I’ve had the pleasure of creating work for the Los Angeles Times, Village Voice, Marvel Comics, Baltimore Sun, and many other publishers. My graphic novels Vatican Hustle (NBM, 2009) and Elephant Man (NBM, 2010) showcase my love of storytelling through pictures, and I’m the author of Illustration That Works (Monacelli Press, 2015) and Understanding Caricature (Monacelli Press, 2021). Beyond client work, I teach and build programs that help students tell visual stories. I was a Professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art from 2006 to 2015, helped develop the MICA Pre College Illustration curricula, and co-founded The Baltimore Academy of Illustration in 2015, where I continue to teach and mentor. I’ve also led workshops for Osher at Towson University and Johns Hopkins, and taught online courses with Craftsy.
