Ismahairie’s musical journey is rooted in discovery, creativity, and a deep love for his Malay heritage. He began playing Classical violin at nine and joined the Singapore Malay Orchestra (Orkestra Melayu Singapura, OMS) in 1995 as its youngest musician — a role he still holds proudly today. A LASALLE College of the Arts graduate, he is fluent in both Classical and Traditional Malay Music. His interest in World Music grew at LASALLE, where he explored Malay percussion and later developed a passion for Middle Eastern and Turkish music. This led him to train under Singapore Cultural Ambassador Zubir Abdullah and travel to Istanbul for masterclasses with renowned Turkish Oud virtuoso Yurdal Tokcan. Ismahairie has represented Singapore at international music and dance festivals across Asia, Europe, and the United States, including platforms in Japan, South Korea, France, Turkey, Italy, China, and more. Beyond performing, he is an active songwriter and arranger. Since 2009, he has composed Traditional Malay Music for schools competing in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging Competition for Dance. He also enjoys teaching the violin and the Oud, sharing his passion with young musicians and keeping culture and tradition alive through every lesson.
