My name is Jake Martin, and I am a journalist with a masters in Sport Journalism from the University of Brighton and a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Southampton. I am passionate about writing, communication and content creation and have a year’s experience in a professional setting, leading the editorial team for a website. Within that experience I have acquired a number of skills that I believe could be useful for this role. I have experience in leading, but also being a part of a team, being the lead editor for the website of my previous employer. In this role I had to organise the upload schedule for articles and assess the quality of everything that was put onto the site. After the articles were uploaded to the site I also had to monitor their performances on a regular basis. This aided my ability to communicate with others clearly and work as part of a dedicated team. As part of this, I also have to generate ideas for articles and other content and then with the help of the others in my team, mould them into feasible creations. While being the Website Editor at Football Park, I had to regularly liaise with the social media team so that we were pushing out similar content across social media and the website in order to grow our brand. These connections were built seamlessly, and I was able to communicate with the team well. I also took opportunities to help create content for the brand’s social media, especially X in order to further our reach. While at University, I completed my final project studying how consumers (in the case of my dissertation, it was football fans) interact differently on different social media platforms. This deepen my understanding as to how people use these platforms and why, helping me to create content to suit each audience. The vast majority of my experience has come in the form of written content, however through university, my previous employment and my own personal time, I have had the chance to create my digital content in both video and audio form, having created a short-lived podcast two years ago. This podcast allowed me to build skills in media development from the very first stages, all the way through to the episodes being uploaded onto Spotify and YouTube. Digital media production was a very big part of my Sport Journalism degree and so I have experience in using a number of editing software including Adobe Premier Pro, Filmora 9 and CapCut. I am really excited to have the opportunity to apply for this position and I hope to hear from you soon. Yours sincerely, Jake Martin
