I have been working in and around both the production and education professions for the last 10 years. I have been exploring and learning as much as I can about an array of disciplines.
As a writer, and in a supplementary sense as a tutor, I have exercised my knowledge of English and its expression. At Huntington Learning Center, I have worked with students of varied skill levels and competencies. I have assisted in their writing - anything from college applications to basic English essays and research papers (using both MLA and APA). I have, outside of work, assisted friends and peers with writing papers from the university level all the way up through grad school. On the creative front, I have worked with friends to workshop their own scripts in a variety of settings.
As a director, and, strangely, as a tutor as well, I have learned the importance of dealing with people as people, even in a professional setting. The most effective way to reach a student is to listen and communicate beyond the rules of grammar, and the same can be said of working with actors. Over the eight years spent here in Chicago, I have worked on several short films (Locksmith, Monster Myth, Infinite Heist - to name a few) of varying sizes and won Best Windy City Short at the Blow Up International Art House Film Fest for my film Yes, So. I have completed 10, 20 minute long episodes of a web-series called City in a Jar, which saw me expanding my comfortability with scope and versatility. The project necessitated working with actors and non-actors and facilitating interviews (both staged and on the street).
As a video editor, I have developed the same desire for succinctness found in good writing. Working at Hard Lens Media, I delivered projects on a weekly deadline, creating graphics and thumbnails and identifying narrative through-lines and newsworthy details. As a freelance editor I have also encountered projects with a legion of unexpected obstacles and had to develop workarounds and creative solutions for clients. Recently I have entered into performance capture, working with dance companies (Little Fire, Bodies of Water) and theater companies (Theatre de l’Entrouvert, Rough House Theater Co.) to provide archival footage as well as curated edits for promotional use.
Since graduating, I have been accumulating experiences and skills all in service of presenting coherent and intriguing narratives through audience-facing media. I hope to continue to learn and develop these skills here and to contribute content of value to your audience.
