Hi, I’m Billie Jo Sims, a veteran patternmaker, technical designer, and educator with decades of hands-on experience in apparel manufacturing, couture, and costume work. I’ve worked as a first and production patternmaker for Jerell, Brenner, Fashion Initiatives, Ann Tobias, and Leslie Lucks, and I was a Technical Designer for Haggar Womenswear. Since 2002 I’ve offered freelance technical design, patternmaking, draping, grading and marking, and production coordination for local and regional manufacturers. My collaborations include Nicolas Villalba Couture (2005–2007) as fitter, draper, sample and patternmaker, and I’ve developed specialties in eveningwear, special-occasion dressing, costumes, and home décor. In addition to design and production, I teach patternmaking—most recently part-time at Petit Atelier in Dallas—and I’ve served as an adjunct professor at El Centro College. I founded Billie Jo Retro LLC in 2002, a niche apparel label with in-house US-made production sold online, wholesale, and at trade shows. I’m proficient with Gerber digitizers/plotters and related software, and I enjoy sharing practical, production-focused knowledge with aspiring designers and small manufacturers. I'm currently the part time Technical Designer at APNY Apparel here in Dallas.
