Jonas Schubach is an award-winning cinematographer based in Munich and Los Angeles, working across both commercial and narrative projects.
He has collaborated with clients such as BMW, Juzo, KU2, HypoVereinsbank, and Trader Joe’s, creating cinematic visuals for fashion campaigns, automotive commercials, and brand films, while also shooting indie dramas, genre series, and innovative narrative formats.
Jonas combines creative storytelling with technical expertise, working with anamorphic lenses, super slow motion (Phantom 4K), car-to-car setups, and advanced techniques in VR and stop-motion cinematography. As Director of Photography on All Terrain, produced by two-time Oscar-winner Gray Frederickson (The Godfather, Apocalypse Now), he helped realize one of the world’s first 3D 360° VR feature films. His narrative and festival work includes the indie drama Boy Free, the stop-motion feature Return to Kellogg, the horror series The Clowns, and the acclaimed stop-motion shorts Tin Tunes and Forage.
Jonas holds an MFA from Florida State University, an MA from the University of Memphis, and a BA from the University of Mainz, and has taught cinematography at all three institutions. In his free time, he plays guitar, listens to the Beatles, and paddles on Lake Constance.
