I’m Kay, a Sheffield-based designer with nine years of industry experience across both in-house and studio environments, working in a mix of design and artworker roles. Following redundancy last November due to a change in company ownership, I’ve been actively seeking a new opportunity while continuing to take on a steady stream of freelance work. Having most recently worked as the sole in-house creative, I’m now eager to return to a studio environment where I can collaborate with other designers, continue learning, and get stuck into ambitious creative projects. Over the last nine years I’ve worked across agency, freelance and in-house roles, developing strong experience working under pressure and managing multiple projects to tight deadlines. Throughout my career I’ve worked across projects from initial concept through to final production, particularly across print, packaging, retail and environmental design. Most recently at The Climbing Hangar, I led the creative rollout of six new sites across the UK, overseeing signage, environmental graphics, launch campaigns, merchandise and retail assets while managing budgets and working closely with marketing, operations and external suppliers. I also built and developed the brand identity and also developed guidelines for The Climbing Hangar Brand and Refugees Rock. Alongside this, my freelance work has included packaging and promotional projects for brands such as All Things Butter and Kudu Nutrition, as well as a range of print-focused assets across FMCG, property and MedTech sectors. Retail and physical design projects are an area I particularly enjoy, especially creating work that belongs in the physical space through packaging, merchandising and environmental graphics - I find it rewarding to see a project through from concept to production. I have strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, alongside experience in video editing and motion graphics, primarily talking-head edits and lower thirds with working knowledge of After Effects. I also actively use AI tools within my workflow where appropriate, particularly to streamline image editing and production processes. Earlier in my career, working at Kitsune (a minimalist-style design studio) helped build a strong understanding of layout, hierarchy, typography and colour through highly detail-focused print work and digital projects. Combined with my varied freelance and in-house experience, I believe this has helped me develop a visually strong and adaptable approach across multiple channels.
