I was born in 1959, the son of a fish shop owner and a dance teacher. I studied Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Bristol. Since 1982 I have worked mainly as a scriptwriter, author (fiction/non-fiction) and playwright. My career includes writing the screenplay adaptation of Martin Amis's Other People: A Mystery Story for BBC, winning the National Screenwriting Competition in 1987 for The Blue Pearl, and having scripts commissioned by Paulforth Ltd., Millimages S.A., and Red Fox Productions. In television I won a BAFTA for co-creating, co-producing and co-writing Pablo. I've published six non-fiction titles including Unexplained Natural Phenomena (Orion, 1997) and The Search for Free Energy (Simon & Schuster UK, 2001), and two Pablo children's books. Since 2008 I've been a Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge and the University of East Anglia in Norwich, and I teach scriptwriting storytelling at various universities. I recently completed Frida's Return, a one-woman show about Frida Kahlo, slated for production in 2027. I live in North Norfolk, England.
