The Fragility of the Hero
Work for a client with editorial purposes about the Greek hero Achilles from The Iliad by Homer.
After one of the most harrowing conflicts between heroes and gods began, Aquileo or Achilles yields his solitude, offered by his men, to surrender to fragile weeping, where the pride of the warrior gives way to his mother’s plea. She, in an almost dreamlike atmosphere, consoles her son stripped of timé (honor and prestige), dissolving in her waves the tears that a beautiful maiden had provoked when Agamemnon so decreed it. His mother, the goddess Thetis, knew that the warrior’s fate was inevitable, and so she returned to the sea with the bearing of a sorrowful and disarmed wave, after caressing her son with the promise of persuading Zeus to retaliate against those who had inflicted such pain.
