Matthew Henry Jake Janzen is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist composer. Born in Port Hardy, British Columbia, he now lives in Toronto, Ontario with his wife and dog. Classically trained in oboe, piano, violin, and guitar, he took it upon himself to direct this knowledge towards the learning of as many other varied instruments as possible. The result is that Matthew is self-taught on the cello, viola, banjo, mandolin, clarinet, flute, and many more. Matthew’s passion for music began early on. He quickly recognized the draw to write and compose music, rather than continue down the path of the performing artist. With an eclectic taste and a special delight in off kilter sounds, Matthew’s style of music composition is held aloft somewhere between classical influences and electronic fascination. His greatest inspiration is drawn equally from Peter and the Wolf and The Legend of Zelda. The experience Matthew brings to every project is as varied as the instruments he plays. He has written music for theatre productions as well as commercial videos, composed independently as well as in collaboration with other musicians, and spent as much time playing onstage as he has in the recording studio. Added to this diverse background of experience is Matthew’s formal training. He has expanded his knowledge of music and sound design formally through music composition courses at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and sound engineering intensives with Whitewater Productions.
