I am Mateo Arango, a director / cinematographer with over seven years of experience in narrative and commercial projects. My versatility lets me shoot documentaries as a one-man band or lead six-figure TV campaigns with large crews. I’m driven by human connection and strive to translate that energy into compelling moving and still pictures.
With a marketing background, I bring a structured, goal-focused approach to every project, while my creative side pushes me to explore unique angles. Over the past six years I’ve built a diverse background across freelance work, personal projects, and full-time roles, most recently as Cinematographer / Editor at Redhanded within the Clemenger Group, collaborating with Clemenger BBDO, Porter Novelli, and Colenso BBDO to deliver for a wide range of clients and sister agencies.

I was approached by Grizzly Smokers to do their smoking barrel launching campaign. Immediately, I knew I wanted to bring the good memories from a summer BBQ with friends, the stories and moments shared around good food and good drinks.
The edit I wanted it to be fast-paced, representing how these moments are sometimes very ephemeral, so we have to enjoy them as much as I did producing this project from end to end.

To promote their MINI All-Electric, MINI wanted to capture a testimonial from some of their brand ambassadors, those who live a well, intentional live. Tom and Tamsin are publishers of GREEN Magazine, and in their words, their MINI was a revolution for them.
As a director for this project, I created the director’s treatment, chose locations, shot it and did the online editing and colour grading. The agency for this project was Clemenger BBDO.

To mark the grand reopening of UNIQLO Emporium in Melbourne, the brand wanted to celebrate the people who make this city unique. Four local voices — Phoebe Go (Musician), Hieu Nguyen (Artist) Clint Stanaway (Media Presenter and Lucy Stephan (Olympic Rower) — share how LifeWear fits naturally into their everyday lives, capturing the creativity, energy and spirit of Melbourne.
This project was the perfect chance to look at the city again with fresh, tourist eyes and find those moments and places that made me fall in love when I first arrived in this city.
I was involved from the very beginning, creating a director treatment, choosing locations, shooting, editing and even colour grading. An end-to-end project for a great company and a great agency (Clemenger BBDO)
