Steve Martin "The Crow: New Songs for the 5 String Banjo"

This project was the first serious music album from actor and musician Steve Martin. His close friend John McEuen who produced this album, hired me to oversee the engineering and then to mix this album for them.
It won a Grammy for Best Bluegrass album in 2009, and was #1 on Amazon’s Bluegrass charts for months on end.

At the beginning of the project my job was to work with John McEuen in editing the basic demos that Steve had provided him, into more complete songs, with appropriate tempo, pitch, and length to properly wrap Steve’s lyrics around. Once that was done and approved by Mr. Martin, John went around the country to record different talented artists such as Dolly Parton and Vince Gill, who lent their wonderful voices to “Pretty Flowers”. during production, my job was to supervise all recordings, since many were done at different studios, according to Steve and John’s availability, as well as the session musicians as well. The songs ended up being recorded at over 5 studios across the United States, as well as one song in Ireland, where the singer Mary Black lives.

Once all the recordings were done, I went on to do final edits with John and Steve’s approval of all takes, and then proceed to mix the album in my home studio.

You can listen to “The Crow” on most any streaming services.
