Hi, I’m Carly Penrose—a passionate animator and game designer focused on bringing UI elements to life in video games. I’m currently studying Video Game Design and Animation at Toronto Film School, and I love bridging the gap between artists and coders so interactive screens feel as expressive as the gameplay. I work across tools like Maya, Substance Painter, Photoshop, and Unreal Engine to create animated UI and in-game experiences, building motion that makes even simple buttons feel alive. My work includes a solo project where I created animations, assets, music, and used extensive Unreal Engine blueprinting, and I also completed a solo game jam using my own content and systems.

Work Experience

Solo Game Jam Developer
January 1, 2025 - January 31, 2025
Completed my first game jam solo within three days using only my own assets and Unreal Engine blueprinting. I focused on rapidly designing and implementing gameplay, integrating art/animation and interactive logic to deliver a playable downloadable build.
Solo Game Developer (Final Project)
January 1, 2024 - December 31, 2024
Created and shipped a small Unreal Engine game entirely on my own called “Save Baby Creepy.” I produced my own assets and animations, created music in FruityLoops, and built a rock wall texture from scratch. The project also relied on substantial Unreal Engine blueprinting (over 130 blueprints). I led the end-to-end implementation, integrating art, animation, audio, and gameplay systems into a playable experience; gameplay footage is available via the provided YouTube links.

Education

Video Game Design diploma at Trillium College

Video Game Design and Animation at Toronto Film School

I'm going half speed to take in as much as I can, which leaves room for trying to get some real world experience in as well. I have 3D models and scene transition set up that are planned to be used in next terms graduating capstone, and hopefully my character customization system in Unreal as well. Working on a potential solo that will be be PC/VR compatible, possibly Mobile as well. I really want to fine tune my new system for VR character movement.
