The Patchless Giraffe | Te Kakī Roa Ōpurepure Kore

“Basuto was lonely and sad. The other young giraffes would not play with him because they thought he was an antelope with a long neck, for poor Basuto was born without any dark brown patches like them. Basuto’s mother kept telling him he would get some, but he didn’t. Basuto asks some of the other animals living on the African Plain to help. But do they?”

The Patchless Giraffe is a dual-language picture book written in both English and te reo Māori as an educational resource for both classrooms and children at home and to promote the use of te reo in New Zealand. Written by Marlene J. Bennetts (MNZM) and illustrated by Georgina Brook.
