The Witch of Crimson Smoke is an original cinematic poster concept inspired by retro anime, manga, and noir storytelling.
The goal was to create a visual that feels mysterious, rebellious, and instantly cinematic without relying on a crowded composition. I built the artwork from scratch, developing the character, expression, traditional pipe, flowing smoke, tattoos, and surrounding visual details to give the poster its own identity.
I used a restrained palette of crimson red, aged beige, and off-black to create strong contrast and keep the character as the visual focal point. The smoke was designed to move around the character and typography, adding depth and creating a sense of motion within a static poster.
The Japanese title, English typography, film billing, crest, and signature were carefully placed to maintain the feel of an authentic theatrical poster while keeping the overall design clean and balanced.
This project combines illustration, typography, composition, art direction, and visual storytelling into one cohesive cinematic piece.
