I’m Rodolfo Melo, an illustrator and graphic designer. My work is primarily focused on illustrated books, with a special interest in illustration as a narrative tool. My background in graphic design strongly influences my practice as an illustrator. Over nearly 20 years of professional experience, I have worked in editorial design, branding, visual identities, and the development of graphic projects across a wide range of fields, including advertising, institutional, cultural, events, and cinema. This experience has shaped my attentive approach to the book as an object and to the relationship between image, text, and the book as an object. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and a postgraduate degree in the same field, as well as a specialization in illustrated books from the Academia de San Carlos (UNAM–Mexico). I currently develop illustrations for a wide variety of projects, including books, illustrated books, object books, toy books, and editorial projects that explore visual narrative as a central axis, as well as illustrations for other media and formats such as animation and communication materials, both printed and digital. I believe illustration is a space for experimentation, play, and dialogue with the reader/viewer — a way of telling good stories.
