Hi, I’m Ross Tinney. I’m a filmmaker and director with a passion for TV commercials, company profiles, and web videos. I founded RT Films in 1985 after spending seven years at Channel 7 Perth as Commercials Director and Program Director, and three years as Commercials Director at South Pacific Television in New Zealand. In 1997 I opened RT Films in Jakarta, building a trusted production house across SE Asia and directing work for Nestle, Garuda, Indofood, Zwitsal, and international brands like Uber, Woolworths, and Ikea. Returning to Perth in 2008, I expanded from directing to shooting on DSLR, flying a drone, and editing online content, creating a large library of online films for clients including Home Group, BUPA, Curtin University, Cisco, and more. I’ve written a book, My POV – Getting ahead in the film industry, to help students bridge the gap between study and the street. I’m also drawn to acting, and in May 2026 I landed a role in Netflix’s Breakers, filmed in WA’s South West. One of my personal projects, Flight of The Swan, took four years to complete: a 22-minute drone-based river journey from source to sea, featuring an inspirational concerto by Tim Count performed by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra.
