Hi, I’m Sally Whitham-Shaw, a freelance media composer. I grew up in Sheffield and studied composition at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. I’ve sung in a variety of bands including folk, indie, punk and jazz. I’ve been a classroom music teacher in a variety of secondary schools, and served as a GCSE moderator for MEG.
My composing experience includes incidental music for stage, jingle writing for radio, custom scoring corporate videos, advertisements and films.
I studied sound engineering with Mastering.com from 2020 and continue studying in order to keep abreast of changes and trends. My mentor is Jack Chown of Thought Collective.
I’m a freelance composer currently working on an hour-long children’s animation film for a LA-based company, and a drama/dance film based in Manchester in the 1980’s for the filmmakers ‘Shooting Creatives’. I recently won a scoring competition with The Cue Tube (the prize being a recording of one of my string quartets by the Northern Film Orchestra). I continue pitching for briefs and have music in a variety of music libraries.
My greatest love is writing bespoke music for film.
I also act as a music supervisor. I have a growing library of music from over 40 artists (all genres) and use their songs in soundtracks when appropriate.
