Hi, I’m Samuel Barney Blanco. I am a PhD in History focusing on water management policies in Southern Europe in the 16th century, and the relationship between irrigation communities and the growing Modern states. My research connects Italian and Spanish scholarly circles with visiting roles in Venice, Padua, Madrid, Valencia, Toulouse, and Saint Andrews. I am passionate about environmental, communitarian and socio-political conflict both in the past and in the present.
Beyond research, I worked as a lecturer and cultural mediator across universities and cultural institutions. I’ve taught undergraduate courses on the social and economic history of the Middle Ages and supported international linguistic and academic exchanges in France. I have also been a tourist guide in Spain. I’m dedicated to making history, politics and social issues accessible and engaging for diverse audiences.
