Shahabodin Afrasiabi

I am Shahabodin Afrasiabi, a Power System Consultant (PSC) and IEEE Senior Member based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I hold a PhD in Power Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, where my research focused on Distribution System State Estimation using data-driven approaches. I have extensive experience conducting power system studies, developing steady-state and dynamic models, and applying data-driven techniques to improve reliability, stability, and planning for modern grids.

My work spans academia and industry, with a strong emphasis on machine learning and probabilistic methods in power systems, teaching and mentoring students, and delivering detailed technical analyses and reports for interconnection studies and grid planning. I enjoy collaborating with international teams and translating complex technical results into actionable insights for engineers, utilities, and stakeholders.
