Louis Romanos is a distinguished percussionist, composer, educator, and bandleader known for his contributions to jazz and various other musical genres. Born and raised in Connecticut, where he studied drums under Art Perretta, Louis moved to New Orleans at the age of nineteen to immerse himself in the birthplace of jazz and to study music and philosophy under the tutelage of renowned musicians such as Idris Muhammad and Johnny Vidacovich. Louis went on to perform and record with some of the most prominent musicians in the industry, such as Kenji Bunch, Tommy James, Gene Bertoncini, Steve Masakowski, Wycliff Gordon, Chuck Leavell, Keith Richards, John Mayer, Charles and Cyril Neville, Al Hirt, Dave Easley, Charlie Miller, Earl Turbinton, Tricia Boutte, Marva Wright, Dave Anderson, and many others. Louis has collaborated with numerous dancers, instructors, schools, and dance companies as an accompanist and composer. Some of his notable partners include CORE, Red Dance, Risa Steinberg, Rachael Burman, Jackie Bugelici, Miguel Lopez, Joffrey Ballet School, Alvin Ailey School, UGA Dance, Brenau University, and Southeast Ballet Association. As a composer, Louis has created original music for various projects, such as live bands, dance, TV, video games, indie movies, and other multimedia. He is the main composer for all of TnG Productions indie films. He has received several commissions, such as five works for the Confederacy of Dances performance at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, the modern ballet piece Interior Borders by choreographer Joan Buttram at the University of Georgia, Collective Embodiment and Cultural Acceptance (Lament, Structural Disorder) for the University of Georgia, Take Me There for the University of Monroe guitar ensemble, and Baltic Blues for the Mirari Brass Quintet. He has also worked with visual artist and producer Nancy Bechtol on Light Waves, which was featured on Culture T.V., and composed for C-E-N-T-E-R, a cross-disciplinary initiative between visual artists and composers in Los Angeles. His composition Tyco at the Gates was licensed to the film, Cool It. Some of his fun indie works include a dystopian futuristic score for the short film Odessa, an action score for Fira’s Game, and an uplifting score for the documentary Pink and Blue: The Colors of Hereditary Cancer. He also scored the live theater production of The Bakkhai. Louis scored the video games The Dark Ages of Titan and Corpse Wagon. He recorded drums for the theme song of the Squidbillies on the Cartoon Network. As an educator, Louis has given master classes at many universities around the USA and Germany. He also runs a small private teaching studio in Athens, Ga. Currently, Louis leads and writes for his own groups, The Louis Romanos Trio, Spondee, Open Music Mediations with Rob Foster, and an organ duo with Erik Olson.
