Originally opened in 2014, 'koffiespot' is an espresso bar and a warm and atmospheric place and functions as a living room and main coffee-supplier for people of Jordaan. Amsterdam's Jordaan is probably the most famous neighbourhood in The Netherlands. It has recently developed into a strong culinary district with some of the city's more highly regarded restaurants, shops and bars.
The target group of 'koffiespot' is mostly with people who work and live in the Jordaan, but also tourists, 'laptop students' and coffee lovers.
During my internship at Studio Dumbar in Rotterdam in 2016, I was asked to design a new visual identity for this cafe.
My concept for the design was based on calligraphy which was able to show the new identity and main goal of 'koffiespot' (A café for young Amsterdam people) which tries to be modern by keeping the old traditions. In short words: A funky, subtle and elegant design.
