Ciarán Jordan-McDermott - Composer, Session Musician, Ethnomusicologist, String Instrument Specialist & Tutor I am a versatile composer and musician with over 12 years of experience in composition, performance, and music analysis. My work is deeply inspired by my Irish heritage and enriched by influences from the Russian Romantic Period, traditional Persian and Japanese music, and jazz. With a unique ability to blend these diverse traditions, I create music that is both innovative and deeply resonant, bridging cultural and emotional landscapes. I began my musical journey as a violinist, joining an orchestra at the age of 15 as first violinist. This early exposure to orchestral dynamics shaped my approach to music-making, fostering a deep understanding of collaboration and arrangement. During my college years, I honed my skills further by composing a symphony as my final project, which showcased my ability to synthesize classical forms with bold, creative ideas. Since graduating, I have pursued my passion as both an ethnomusicologist and a string instrument specialist, broadening my knowledge of global musical traditions and mastering a range of string instruments. This work has given me the tools to connect with musicians and audiences from diverse cultural backgrounds. In addition to my extensive work in classical and chamber music, I also compose and perform jazz, bringing a dynamic and adaptable style to every project. I pride myself on my ability to work collaboratively and deliver high-quality music tailored to specific needs, whether it’s composing original scores, arranging existing works, or performing live. My professional background includes conducting, leading ensembles, and mentoring other musicians, demonstrating my leadership skills and dedication to fostering a creative and supportive musical environment. I am passionate about using music as a universal language to connect people and tell stories. With my broad skill set, extensive knowledge of music theory, and ability to adapt across genres and styles, I am confident in my ability to contribute meaningfully to any musical endeavour.
