Matt Smith

A dedicated, personable and unflappable self-shooting Producer/Director with over 15 years’ experience across broadcast and digital platforms, I specialise in visually rich, editorially rigorous factual storytelling. My work spans arts, collectables, science, history, natural history and documentary filmmaking, and I bring a calm, collaborative approach that consistently brings out the best in contributors, experts and production teams.

In recent years, my focus has expanded into digital content creation and social-first storytelling, including shooting, directing, and producing ‘Future Makers’, UKRI’s YouTube mini-series exploring innovation and science research. Prior to this, I worked as a Producer/Director on BBC’s ‘Fake or Fortune?’, leading complex editorial investigations and filming across Europe and North America.

Alongside my broadcast work, I’ve increasingly embraced independent online production - launching my own YouTube channel focued on the world of film, music, and pop culture collectables, as well as directing and producing music promos and short-form digital content. Exploring these new creative spaces has allowed me to experiment with faster-paced storytelling, audience engagement, branding, and platform-native filmmaking in a way that feels creatively exciting and highly adaptable to the evolving media landscape.

Moving into online production has reignited my love of filmmaking from the ground up - developing ideas, shooting, editing and building audiences directly around stories and subjects I genuinely care about.

Equally confident directing talent, collaborating with specialist contributors, or operating the camera myself, I bring strong editorial instincts, a keen visual eye and a genuine curiousity that drives engaging, accessible storytelling across any platform.
