Hi, I’m Walter Martin, a Bachelor of Science student at Victoria University, majoring in environmental studies. I’ve spent years tutoring children in music (drumming), organising lessons, scheduling, and handling payments directly with parents. I began tutoring in Auckland and continued in Wellington, adapting teaching methods to online videos during lockdown. I value building long-lasting relationships with students and their families and I love watching them grow as musicians. When I’m not teaching, I work in retail at Animates, where I’ve learned about pets, customer service, stock management, cash handling, and training new staff. I’ve also held warehouse and office-management roles, which taught me how to stay organized, manage inventories, and communicate clearly. As a drummer, I’ve performed with Wellington artists as a professional session musician and am an original member of Dropper, a touring band with a debut record that has charted in New Zealand. I’m reliable, a quick learner, and passionate about animals and the environment.

Drumming in dropper has required an extensive amount of planning and time management skills especially while uni is going on, the balance i learned through being committed to dropper has made me better at prioritising and managing commitments such as work and university. Scheduling, countless zoom calls and emails has made me a better ‘personal manager’ as I am now able to structure my life in a healthy and sustainable way while still making the most out of my time.
