I love telling stories through videos! Ever since I was a kid, I was editing videos that best followed a story. Throughout the first videos I made, I learned it takes a while to tell a good story. As a teenager, I made this video called Explorers 6. I learned to make all the scenes fit together nicely though watching the scenes I had filmed. I watched the main character and asked if his motives made sense. I needed to shot one more scene to understand the journey he was going on. As I edited videos, I have had satisfaction in showing videos to an audience and find a story that makes sense. Once I got to college, I learned the importance of switching different types of shots around. For example, my first videos in college were mostly wide shots. My teachers help me understand that this makes a video boring. With this knowledge, I made a car commercial showing close ups of the logo of the car and the detail of the wheels. The video I made, helped to illustrate that this company who made the car, has professional assets on the car. As I moved further in college, I loved getting to learn how to use Premiere Pro.I used my knowledge of premiere pro for an internship I did. In a week, I made nine videos, each a minute and a half long to show to the client. My client was proud that I made an engaging story that helped the audience understand the events I was advertising. I made this possible through watching all of the clips, then forming a structure of the story in a word doc. I enjoyed the process of building the story of the videos piece by piece. After knowing premiere for a year, I thought it was best to learn a new video editing software. I decided to pick up in learning After Effects. I enjoyed learning a new software. The knowledge of After Effects helped me when I was in a school news class. The news needed a new intro for their videos, so I took the initiative to make some new logos to show them. I made them a 2d and a 3d logo. They were blown away by the intros I made them. They started using the 2d logo for the rest of the semester. For my senior project, I choose to make a chocolate bar commercial for a local company that was a 30-minute drive away from me. I ended up being the director, editor, sound designer and color corrector for the project. I first learned to let go of an idea that had that I was planning for about 3 weeks. It was a Mother’s Day commercial of finding actors that I could not find specific to the project. I ended up just filming the chocolate bar with other products. I enjoyed bringing the video to life through fast paced edits and sound. This project got me to love sound design. I spent a good chunk of time looking for sound that would be natural to the video. The different roles helped me imagine how they are unique to the story. I enjoy the process of making the best story possible through the small details and believe that the structure I put into videos is valuable.
