The ‘Face of Africa’ revels in new role
Sun at 05:00
The Sunday Independent’s Face of Africa , Leah Flynn, from Killiney, Co Dublin, is very excited about her role as judge on the Miss Planet Beach Ireland Competition, which took place at Break for the Border in Dublin last night.
Leah, who was selected for the panel alongside some well-known faces from the modelling and TV industry, was brought on board as she has successfully gone through the pageant experience twice.
Leah enjoyed acting as “a mummy” for the girls throughout their preparations for last night. “I wish all of the girls the best of luck and I am confident that I have taught them how to bring out their best,” she said.
Leah will also feature in an upcoming film directed by Anthony Lennon entitled One Christmas Eve, and has worked for Amnesty International starring in the play Footprints of Roses, which focused on the plight of three women in a Zimbabwean government cell and can be viewed on YouTube. “My heart lies with Africa and I try to promote Africa’s image in Ireland as a positive thing. I try to give the essence of our culture,” says Leah, who wears a silk dress from Karen Millen at Clerys O’Connell Street, Dublin.

The champagne continued to flow this week when VIP magazine ran a mini-Miss Ireland contest to select their entry for the forthcoming beauty contest.
The champagne continued to flow this week when VIP magazine ran a mini-Miss Ireland contest to select their entry for the forthcoming beauty contest.
Ten finalists, shortlisted from more than 200 applications from all over Ireland, competed for a place in the Miss Ireland final.
This was no bimbo contest either - 18-year-old medical student Orla Ni Mhuircheartaigh from Galway is a straight-A student and is a skilled piano and violin player; and Ciara O’Dea, also 18, from Castleknock, won Sports Star of the Year beating all the boys at her co-ed school.
Judges Emer O’Reilly-Hyland, Ger Brady and Siobhan McClafferty found not one, but two winners. Kenyan-born, stunning six-footer Leah Flynn has been living in Ireland for 10 years. She will go forward to the Miss Ireland for Miss World contest in August. Christine Byrne (21) from Coolock won a scholarship from the North Dublin Access Programme, and went on to earn a degree in Business last week. Christine will participate in the Miss Ireland for Miss Universe contest in October.
The winners were announced at a sizzling party in the Unicorn. Snipes of Moet et Chandon and girlie pink Champagne flowed, making sure the party buzzed all evening.
