Education

Bachelor of Arts at Goddard College
September 1, 1976 - December 15, 1978
I was fortunate to study with art faculty members James Gahagan, a student of Bauhaus painter Hans Hoffman, and David Zahn, Bill Happel, Pat DeGogorza plus an off-campus summer with Shirin Cave, a student of Bauhaus ceramic artist, Marguerite Wildenhain. I completed a senior study on the development of color in painting from the late 1800's to the mid-1900's, and the evolution of art from romantic realism through abstract expressionism and pure color painting. As references I used Kandinsky's Concerning the Spiritual in Art, The Blue Rider, Hans Hoffman's Search for the Real, and the writings of Paul Klee, Goethe, and Josef Albers. After graduating, I briefly studied in New York with another Hoffman student, Nieves Billmyer. I also studied the psychology of creativity, psychology of color and have been a life-long learner in the field of spirituality via study and practice with teachers of Vedanta, Sufism, Zen and Tibetan Buddhism which informs all the work I do, especially understanding the nature of perception and the workings of the human mind. This applies to writing and design whether for marketing, teaching, publishing, or for personal enjoyment and insight.
Freshman Year at College of William and Mary
September 1, 1975 - May 15, 1976
My freshman year studies included printmaking/lithography, astronomy, physics of music, modern dance, intermediate level Spanish, sociology, canoeing, history of art. It would have been a good general education, but I transferred to Goddard College to focus more on studio art and to be immersed in a more creative culture.
General (paralegal) Practice at Institute for Paralegal Training (now part of the University of Pennsylvania)
June 1, 1984 - October 30, 1984
This was a certification course that prepared students to work as paralegals in a general law practice, surveying different specialties, covering the fundamentals of civil, criminal, and administrative law, and the day-to-day aspects of practicing law such as court procedures, preparation of documents, and computer legal research (which was new at that time).
High School Graduation at The Madeira School
September 1, 1973 - May 15, 1975
Attending an all-girls high school gave me a uniquely solid foundation for college and beyond, both in academics and personal growth. I highly recommend an all-girls environment for at least some part of a girl's education, where they can relax and discover their value as individuals apart from the pressure to be popular with the boys, and where they can focus on their own education and development as leaders rather than training only to play supporting roles for the rest of their lives.
