Alpha Yu (he/him) is an award-winning Vancouver-based author-illustrator and teacher with a specialisation in graphic novels and background art. He received his BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design and has a particular fondness for the children of immigrants, the struggling artists, and the people who wish the grey city had a little more colour. It's his wish to draw it all! Alpha has experience teaching children age 6-11, working in editorial teams, and illustrating children's book as well as YA and middle grade graphic novels. He is proficient in Adobe Photoshop (10 yrs experience), Adobe Indesign (8 yrs experience), and Clip Studio Paint (3 yrs experience). Since May 2023, he’s routinely sold art at conventions, markets, and even malls under the alias of Shoba. He has has been a guest speaker for art and Canadian culture for events at Simon Fraser University, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, the University of British Columbia, and more. In his spare time, Alpha enjoys long walks on sunset beaches and building plastic robot models, but not both at once. That would be hard. ​ Alpha is currently a visual editor at Rebel Goose Books.
