Machine Learning Engineer at Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics, FORTH

June 1, 2022 - November 14, 2025

Lead ML projects across marine biodiversity monitoring (NEMO-Tools) and pediatric UTI risk prediction. Built a 69k-image Mediterranean fish dataset from iNaturalist; experimented with transfer learning (LoRA, post-training, full fine-tuning) on DINOv2 and YOLOv11 to improve species classification. Deployed a FastAPI visualization API via Docker and HuggingFace. Co-authored a manuscript under review at Frontiers in Marine Science. Also contributed to predictive modeling for uropathogens, recurrence, and renal damage; and contributed to the NEXT-FRET smFRET platform with a time-varying Gaussian Mixture Model for dynamic folding states. A separate internship involved cumulant-GAN implementation in TensorFlow 2 with animated training visualizations.

Also contributed to a project predicting resistant uropathogens, recurrence and kidney damage in pediatric UTI using descriptive statistics, visualization and ML classifiers; and contributed to NEXT-FRET platform development with a time-varying Gaussian Mixture Model and EM optimization.
