Anna Joos is a Swiss-Swedish filmmaker, editor, and visual anthropologist whose work moves between cinema, research, and social engagement. Educated at ECAL/HEAD in Directing, the Graduate Institute Geneva in Anthropology and Sociology, and the University of Manchester in Visual Anthropology, she brings a precise editorial sensibility and a poetic curiosity to her filmmaking. Her short film Niederurnen, GL premiered at Visions du Réel 2025, following numerous festival screenings across Europe and beyond. Drawing on experience as a freelance videographer, curator, and workshop facilitator, Anna’s practice bridges artistic and ethnographic modes of storytelling. As both director and editor, she has collaborated with institutions such as Bard College, Uppsala University, and DOK.fest München, crafting films that linger on atmosphere and human encounter. Supported by Cinéforom, Glarus Kulturförderung, and the Anne-Marie Schindler Stiftung, Anna continues to explore how images—and the rhythm of their assembly—can open dialogue, evoke memory, and reimagine our ways of seeing.
