Nicola Barnaba was born in 1964 in a small town in the south of Italy and at the age of 8 started being interested in movies after watching “Frankenstein” on the TV. He was a big movie fan until 14, when after watching "Vanishing Point" and "Ballad of a Soldier" he decided that Cinema had to be part of his future. While graduating in Chemistry and obtaining a Master in Pharmacology, he kept on studying Cinema taking various courses around Europe: "Directing actors" with Nikita Mikhalkov, "Writing with light" with Vittorio Storaro, "Editing" with Roberto Perpignani, and many others about Screenwriting, Visual effects and Special makeup FX. By chance in 1995, he directed his first short film “The Grandmother”, a project inspired by a Stephen King short story, that won best directing, best editing and best special fx award in many festival around the world. In a boring weekend he wrote and directed the short film “The Stranger”, Awarded for best directing and best short film. Other awarded short film followed and in 1996 he started working as movie editor on a feature films. In 1998 he started working as Assistant Director on feature films and television series and wrote produced and directed the short film “The Building” that won more than 15 award around Europe including the Special Prize of the Jury at the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival 2000. In the year 2002, Barnaba was hired as Second Unit Director for the International co-production “Soraya”. From 2000 to 2010 he worked both as 1st AD and II Unit Director in several International co-productions. In 2010, was hired to shot the feature film “Una cella in due”, a comedy that in 2012 has yet the highest audience rate on pay-per-view. Since then he directed the horror movie “Safrom”, currently on amazon prime, that also become a web series distributed on the Asian and the Russian market. In 2016 directed “Ciao Brother”, aired on Sky and currently on Amazon Prime. In 2023 he directed “Runner”, an action thriller currently on Amazon Prime and Apple plus tv.
