GALWAD
Sky Arts & S4C
I composed the dance score for the Swansea Beach sequence and created sound design for the broadcast and social media channels
Inspired by the Well Being of Future Generations Act (2015), Wales’ remarkable law putting the rights of future generations at the heart of decision-making, GALWAD is a story that brings a possible future roaring into the present. It pushes the boundaries of how stories have been told, with characters and story-lines connecting across TV drama, live performance, social media and news.
The story proposed that for one week the future made contact with the present - with messages and information coming through on social channels from 2052. It was only in the screening of the drama on Sunday 2nd October that we saw the world of 2052 fully revealed.
The project was a new kind of broadcast in partnership with Sky Arts, offering audiences a catch-up of the full story over 4.5hours.
KABEL Dance Score
Sadlers Wells, Matsena Productions
I created a spatialised score for a new dance work utilising field recording, saxophone performance and ambisonic techniques.
KABEL is a reimagined telling of the tale of Cain and Abel, a sibling rivalry that has rippled across time.
Through a potent mix of movement and text, KABEL delves deep into the primal emotions of jealousy, rage, and redemption. Bodies become the battlefield for a shattered bond by envy, with every action and reaction echoing the ancient conflict.
Following on from Matsena’s acclaimed Shades of Blue, KABEL looks at the gripping resonance that the first murder in human history has in our lives today. How much darkness lives within you? Better yet, what’s your capacity to forgive?
The Herds
Public Climate Art Performance
La Biennale Di Venezia, Wayne McGregor Studios, Matsena Productions, The Walk Productions
I created the score and sound design for a live public art performance in Venice and an immersive night time installation in London.
A spectacular work of traveling public art, The Herds uses life-size puppet animals to address the global crisis of climate change. Conceived by the director Amir Nizar Zuabi, this is a large-scale action that travels through African and European cities, from the Congo Basin to the Arctic Polar Circle, in a symbolic migration that grows larger stop after stop. Life-size elephants, giraffes, antelopes and lions, gorillas, kudus and zebras animate urban performances to awaken consciences and promote a collective participatory action.
From April through August 2025, herds of animals built of recycled cardboard with a moveable wood structure, the work of a 35-person team made up of designers, technicians and trainers including the Ukwanda Puppetry and Designs Art Collective from South Africa, will invade city centres – from Kinshasa to the extreme tip of Norway – travelling a 20,000 km route that symbolizes their escape from the climate disasters that have destroyed their habitat. Biennale College Danza with its selected sixteen dancers and two choreographers will meet The Herds at the Arsenale in Venice, and with them, the hip-hop star Anthony Matsena will create a bespoke choreographic intervention.
