Brian Ascenzo (Cousin B) is a 50 year veteran of the entertainment business during which time he has cut a wide path across the industry. Born in Detroit Michigan, he grew up during the musically rich era of the 60s and 70s. Bolstered by the encouragement of his paternal aunt, Gilda Maiken (Anderson) of the legendary Skylarks vocal group, Brian developed a truly eclectic skill set, both creatively and technically.
As a musician, he has composed, arranged, produced and performed many styles of music, from classical to jazz to rock and techno (even the odd pit orchestra). An old school musician, Brian plays guitar, (all styles) bass guitar, mandolin, keyboards and also sings.
As an audio engineer, producer, and videographer, he has worked with hundreds of clients over the years, producing and /or engineering and mixing a variety of albums, singles, demos and videos in a wide range of musical styles and on all major recording and editing formats.
A Pro Tools user since 1994, Certified since V.11, Brian’s past experience includes teaching advanced recording, including the Synclavier at Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts, and teaching and utilizing midi-based sequencing/recording since it’s inception in the 1980s.
He has composed many instrumental pieces for various short films, infomercials, a PBS documentary and numerous product videos, including 'score-to-picture’, amassing a large music library of varying styles that is available for synchronizing and licensing.
As a video producer/editor, he has created many music videos and technical or product videos, including over 50 for the late Groove Tubes founder Aspen Pittman’s Single Point Stereo unit, the ‘Spacestation’. Brian also ran his recording studio, Aspen’s Place, handling all music, audio and video production from 2012-2019.
Brian currently freelances, offering audio engineering and production, musical arrangement, performance and production and live musical performance. He also offers lessons on guitar, bass, synthesizers and recording.
He performs regularly in the LA area as ‘Cousin B’.
