My name is Chris Hilbig. I’m a fine artist and illustrator from San Antonio, Texas, United States
My background is in Print Design, which I learned at San Antonio College. Later on, I enrolled and graduated from The Art Instruction Schools of Minneapolis, MN. While attending the Art Instruction schools, I won a few awards, including 1st place in the 2012 Charles Schulz Cartoon Art competition.
I have practiced graphic design professionally for roughly two years for a local firm. Off and on, I have been offering my services online as a freelance illustrator for 20+ years. After a 6 year stint in 2019 working for Mondelez International, I left them to help start a skateboarding lifestyle company with a cousin. During this time, I produce quirky art for the partnership. After that fell apart, I founded my publishing imprint Second Half Studios in 2022, having published three titles in multiple languages.
I am also in the fine art space. In 2024, my series “Little Spoofs” was re-released to the public, and this includes the original canvases. To learn more, please visit Chris Hilbig Art online Website not available. Sign in: https://www.twine.net/signup

“Reflexion” is the fourth in a series of kitten paintings produced digitally by artist Chris Hilbig. This painting was created in Corel Painter and Adobe PhotoShop. It is stamped with the kana denoting the season of Spring in 2025. The original dimensions are 16 x 20 inches at 300 dpi.
A small black kitten, set up against a white background, stares intently into a blob of black ink, envisioning itself as a white kitten with sparkling blue eyes. This leverages the concept of the Yin and Yang design. This painting uses color to immediately draw the eye to both the black kitten and its idealized reflection.
" Reflection" started out mimicking the online meme of the cat staring into a mirror and seeing a lion in the reflection. This meme is often used in self-help webinars whenever the moderator tells the audience that you can determine your future self, even physically. But a cat, no matter what it does, isn’t capable of this ability.
We all want to be richer, better-looking, et cetera. Looking at others, we assume that he/she “have it better” than we do. We have no idea of what that other person’s life is like, nor the struggles or burdens that he/she bears. If we could trade lives with that person, we might come to the conclusion that even though they have it better materially, you really wouldn’t want to live like that person. So, the grass isn’t greener on the other side. We should learn to love and accept ourselves.
