This project is a book cover design for the bestseller Verity, written by Colleen Hoover. The proposal was to visually convey the psychological tension and mystery present in the narrative, creating a dark, intriguing, and slightly distorted atmosphere — much like the minds of the characters.
The composition was developed in Photoshop, using image manipulation techniques and the blending of elements from two stock photos and textures. The choice of a grayish, moss-green palette and distortion effects reflects the dark tone of the plot and the duality between truth and illusion, the central theme of the book.
The project seeks to engage directly with the reader through visual language, sparking curiosity and suggesting that there is something more beneath the surface — just as unfolds throughout the reading experience.
This is an authorial cover design project developed for a fictional book. The main objective was to create a visual identity capable of expressing the central theme of the narrative: anxiety and the silent emotional impact of small, everyday situations.
The visual composition is built through overlapping cut-out elements, symbolizing fragmented and overloaded thoughts. These layered forms visually translate mental tension and emotional instability, reinforcing the psychological depth of the concept.
The character’s image appears subtly — almost hidden — enhancing the sense of introspection, vulnerability, and emotional withdrawal. This restrained visual presence reflects how anxiety often manifests internally rather than overtly.
A soft color palette of muted pinks and gray tones was chosen to support the melancholic and sensitive atmosphere of the narrative, balancing emotional weight with visual lightness.
The guiding phrase of the project — “Anxiety: the art of suffering over everything that hasn’t even happened yet.” — served as the conceptual foundation for the cover design, shaping the balance between minimal visual language and strong emotional meaning.
This project functions as an exploration of sensitivity, concept, and emotion within editorial design, emphasizing storytelling through composition, color, and symbolism.
