I massively thank you for taking the time to consider me. I am a designer who considers space and the creation of unique environments while being bold, taking risks and creating spaces that are sustainable, engaging and fun. My identity as a designer is very much tied to my personal character, and I tend to be the fun person who lights up a room, lifts everyone's spirits, and makes the day easier in a professional environment. I am also able to sustain this by recognizing when we need to switch to being serious to meet deadlines or ensure everything is in order before closing. My desire to learn, grow and be dedicated to something full-time is strong. I have wanted to be an interior designer for years, but I also resonate with graphics, product and furniture design. I am eager to expand my horizons and develop my burgeoning skills, and I hope my unique designer perspective can benefit your team.

    ENGAGEMENT TASK (Bodega Bottle Board)
Third Year Uni Project For my previously mentioned BODEGA project, we had to produce an engagement task related to our brief. This was basically a way of surveying and getting information beyond a simple questionnaire. Taking from the Spanish interoperation of a Bodega of it being a wine cave, my engagement task consisted of people creating their own wine bottle label and food board. This would involve questions breaking down the concept of Bodega, asking what you would imagine it selling, what shapes would be present, what colours, what do you want it to be. This gave me crucial framework to influence and guide my final concept and reach a design conclusion, resulting in my Bodega project you can glance at from here.
    PRINTMAKING (Self Done & Taught)
Printmaking Module Project The final project for my printmaking module, we were actually given this right as lockdown was occurring. We were tasked with just making whatever print we could. I however had massively enjoyed screen printing, so I decided to make my own screen printer and made templates through acetate. In addition, I also created some Lino prints too. I decided to do a lot of prints and have included my finals here. In order, the top left is done with screen and lino printing, the top right the same, the bottom left being Lino and the bottom right being repeated screens.
    HEADBOARD (Design & Self Build)
Own Project After deferring my final semester, I decided to do a project that I had wanted to do before and finally felt I had the opportunity to. The idea was to create a better headboard for behind my bed. I was inspired by Carrie Bradshaws headboard from Sex and the City, wanting it to serve as a shelving unit alongside a headboard. It was built from my mother's old bedframe planks and some discarded bookshelves. The design is deliberately open as the wall the bed is against is prone to mould. So that had to be a consideration, in addition my room is very small so having the storage is greatly beneficial. Considering it was done in non workshop conditions, I am very proud and know I am capable of better. You can see a Timelapse of me building it on my instagram @interiordethan
    A FRAGILE CORRESPONDENCE (Printed Postcards)
Third Year Uni Project We were tasked with developing a response to the "A Fragile..." series of exhibitions, commissioned by Scotland + Venice. The one we went to see was titled A Fragile Correspondence. The exhibition itself was looking at how nature communicates and corresponds with us in certain different locations that have suffered some manner of change. I particularly honed in on nature reclaiming the space at Grangemouth. This, in addition to discovering the Dundee Valentines series of postcards, led to me creating a series of postcards of my own, using Lino print techniques. The concept is looking at a series of beautiful, natural sightseeing locations that are available to be viewed around Scotland. However, these locations are all at risk of being underwater within the next 50 years. As such, these postcards were created with the purpose of obstructing these views, encouraging confusion, frustration and hopefully further action.
    BLOOMING CARTON: Postcard Printmaking
A second year college project. For my printmaking module, we were tasked with using multiple printmaking techniques to create an art piece or a product. I elected to create a series of postcards. The cards are called Blooming Carton, in relation to the roses I have included as the focal point. Each card is meant for different occasions, with these being tied into the rose colours used for the prints. Produced by myself with Lino, heat transfer and screen printing techiques.
    ARROWPOINT: Seating Structure
Second year uni project. We were tasked with exploring the idea of the grid, and how grid's are always present within design. During my own research and development, I discovered if you connected arrows at their points, their tails would create a grid. I then decided to explore this further, resulting in a seating structure that is partially covered and can be kept outdoors. The structure itself is in the shape of an arrow, with arrow shapes and the grid they create serving as a canopy above.
    BODEGA Proposal
Third Year Uni Project The final project I had completed for my third year, we were given free rein to choose a site and write our own brief. I chose a small two floor retail building and decided to explore the idea and concept of a Bodega. I had heard of the term but was not fully aware of what the concept was. I did discover in my research that it is a New York origin, basically a convenience store with an alternative function. (usually selling food in addition to groceries) Also I learnt of the Spanish function which was a cave to store and cool wine. As such, I tried to mix both of these inspirations, having the ground floor be a typical convenience store with the basement underneath having a bar and these "Bodega Boxes" which served as hireable spaces for food vendors. I feel this has been achieved, making it an engaging space and something that represents multiple of the Bodega iterations. and can be used to introduce the concept to the public in Scotland.
    Aimers Mill (Client Project)
Fourth Year Uni Project The first project produced for my final year of study, we were tasked with transforming a site in Dundee for the costume designer, Jane Petrie. Previously a coffee/linen mill, Jane wanted it to be an artists residence, workshop, exhibition, and costume design melting pot. She had specifications for where these spaces should be across the plan, but the design was up to us. I took one of my massive inspirations from a location from one of my favourite video games, Hollow Bastion, described as a 'part beautiful castle, part twisted machine." I also took inspiration from the sea and the idea of boats, considering Dundee is a riverside city. My particular points I designed that I am proud of are my Boatxhibition models, used to allow the exhibition space on the third floor to be made up to suit the subject. Also, my dye garden canopy, (also on the third floor) was designed by manipulating paper to evoke the idea of a sail. Four floor interior proposal for client, axonometric image created in Vectorworks.
    Dutch Village (PLAYSCAPE)
Third Year Uni Project The first project undertaken in my third year. We were tasked with regenerating the Dutch Village structure within the Craigtoun County Park, Fife. Whatever we regenerate it into, was our own decision, choosing to make it a multi-play centre. The site has a water, sand, soft play areas, games room, restaurant and small park. We actually got to visit the site, and while I was there I was transported to being a child again, thinking it would be awesome to run around and hide and climb. This is what led to me exploring the idea of play, and how different manners of play are beneficial for children. In addition, having generally not always coming away with a positive experience in my childhood, I also added spaces to allow the children to calm down, and a nice restaurant more removed from the play areas so the parents do get a break. designer
    Built Concord (Steltman Chair Re-Interprtation)
Second Year Uni Project Being given the chance to reinterpret Gerrit Rietveld's Steltman Chair in pairs, myself and my partner decided to take from the Bauhaus movement, specifically the Schroder house and Mondrian Prints. We did have mostly equal roles, although I handled much of the digital mockups and graphic identity, although my partner did the bulk of physical building but I did still contribute. Created with wood & acrylic, 1:1 scale.
